Feeding your Android Addiction with news, reviews and guides

cyanogen

Many people are having issues with upgrading from another ROM or from the CyanogenMOD 4.1.11 ROM to the latest legal version. Here are the steps I’ve used to upgrade from CyanogenMOD 4.1.11 to 4.1.999.

NOTE: This guide is for the Dream/G1/ADP1 mobile phones. For HTC Magic (32B ONLY!)/ION/MyTouch3G the steps are the same, but please download and use the HTC ADP 1.6 DRC83 file instead for Step 3.

Required Stuff

Preparations

Have the Cyanogen + JF Recovery Image installed. If you do not have it installed then follow these instructions on how to do so.

Do a Backup! Use your favourite Backup program like My Backup Pro, Backup for Root Users etc.

Download the Android 1.6 Recovery Image (for Dream/G1/ADP1) or the HTC ADP 1.6 DRC83 (Magic (32B ONLY!)/ION/MyTouch3G) file and the CyanogenMOD 4.1.999 ROM. Copy both files to the root of your SD Card

  18. Now be patient as all the files get optimised for its first run as this could take up a good few minutes. Once your mobile is back on, sign in and go to Settings > About Phone. If you scroll down you should see that the Mod version has changed to CyanogenMod-4.1.999.

CyanogenMod4.1.999 (16)

Now its time to check that all went well! Try loading the Google Experience applications such as Google Mail, Google Maps, YouTube and the Android Market to see if it works (and it should!). Then use your favourite Backup application to restore your settings.

Well done, you are now on Cyanogen 4.1.999! From here on in, subsequent updates to CyanogenMOD will just require flashing of the ROM as normal, no need for the Android 1.6 Recovery Image from HTC.

Well this is awesome! But I have a mytouch....and it doesn't have a physical keyboard. It just has a bunch of lines going through it and I can't press any "enter" key. Is there any way around this?
